Why are ground-based telescopes larger than Hubble Space Telescope?

    1. The larger a telescope, the more expensive it is to take it into outer space.
    2. It is much cheaper to build a telescope of a specific size right here on Earth than in outer space.
    3. On the other hand, ground-based telescopes need to compensate for the atmosphere, which interferes with astronomical observations. A larger telescope can compensate for this, at least in part.
