The ESA Commercialisation Gateway invites you to the third instalment of the ESA Commercialisation Days, a series of event dedicated to explore the synergies between space and downstream sectors. This upcoming instalment will focus on Green Energy.
The event will be held in ESA HQ Mario Nikis, in the heart of Paris, on 15 and 16 April 2024.
This event will be built around two focus areas: one focusing on energy sustainability and one focusing on energy security. It will bring together key stakeholders from the green energy and space technology sectors to discuss how the challenges in the transition to green energy can be overcome using space-based solutions and increased collaboration.
As with the precedent editions, it will feature inspirational talks from distinguished speakers, elevator pitches from the start-up community and roundtable discussions with stakeholders (start-ups, industry, institutional) representing both the green energy and the space communities to discuss emerging trends, needs and potential synergies. Network opportunities will also be integral to the main objectives of raising awareness, creating an understanding of the green energy market and ultimately identifying the potential of commercial space-based solutions.
Background
The global energy sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation as countries move towards clean, green energy in response to climate change. At the same time, there is increasing awareness of the need for energy security as geopolitical conflicts threaten supplies. The transition to green energy brings challenges for both the energy sector and individual nations.
Initially, clean energy transitions will rely on a range of renewable energy types for electricity generation – hydro, wave, solar, wind. From 2030, diverse low carbon technologies will start to have an impact.
Space-based technologies can support the transition to green energy and enhance energy security with digitalisation, satellite connectivity and space applications. By working closely with the green energy sector, space applications can support location identification and spatial planning, increase efficiency, and undertake environmental impact monitoring.
The need for innovative developments is key to securing a sustainable, continuous and affordable energy supply. Space solutions can support the green energy sector with energy generation and improvements to forecasts. As the global climate changes, space solutions can monitor weather events for risk reduction and offer communication in remote areas. By listening to the needs of green energy actors, commercial space-based solutions can be developed to overcome the challenges of securing a climate proof future providing sustainable, accessible energy for everyone.
ESA (European Space Agency) envisions space-based solutions as key to combating the climate crisis and enabling a green future. ESA supports and promotes innovative developments using space applications and data as well as offering collaboration, technical assistance and funding.
What will the days involve?
The two half-days will feature expert speakers for each focus area alongside startup pitches, round tables and networking opportunities:
15 April 2024 – afternoon: focus on energy sustainability. Followed by a cocktail dinner.
16 April 2024 – morning: focus on energy security.
A full agenda will be published in due course.
Who should attend?
Green energy stakeholders and supporting industries, including hydro, ocean, solar and wind, particularly those interested in innovative digital solutions, as well as space technology providers working in the green energy sector.
There is a 150 Euro per head charge to cover the cost of the dinner. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
