Ever since we started sending stuff into space, and more specifically on the earth's orbit, there has been an accumulation of stuff floating around our planet. How serious can it get before we actually do something about it?

We all know that the James Webb Telescope was the successor of the Hubble Telescope. The interesting bit is that development of the JWST started before or immediately Hubble went into operation. Has development of JWST's successor begun seeing as how JWST ie only expected to operate for 20 years?
