Beyond the immediate drop in temperature and light, gravity would also be affected. The sun's gravitational pull keeps the earth in orbit. If the sun vanished, Earth would move off in a straight line into space, which could have catastrophic effects. However, this is all purely hypothetical as the laws of physics do not allow such an event to occur.
