gtvo replied to the thread Which space books do you enjoy reading?.

does anyone else get more inspired by the real-life stories of astronauts than by the technical science stuff? I recently read "An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth " by Chris Hadfield, and wow, the behind-the-scenes details are just mind-blowing—so much more than just floating in zero-g. 😅 Also, if anyone's into newer space events, "Spaceman" by Mike Massimino is a super chill read with a lot of humor. I think personal stories make space feel less abstract and more possible, y'know? What…

chance7 replied to the thread Venus Express.

Okay, I get it, Venus Express was a win for science, but honestly, do we ever wonder why NASA keeps ignoring Venus after that? Everyone's hyped about Mars , but Venus is basically our "evil twin" and way closer. This may be a stupid question, but does anyone else think it's suspicious we don’t have more missions planned there, considering all the wild stuff we found out? 🤔 Also, lightning and ancient oceans are cool and all, but what about the crazy super-rotating atmosphere? Like,…

nickmatser replied to the thread What music are you listening to?.

I usually just throw on some indie rock or lo-fi beats, especially when working. Sometimes I dive into movie soundtracks, cuz they give a cool vibe without distracting lyrics. Weirdly enough, I also get hyped by video game music, like the Celeste OST or classic Sonic tracks—anyone else do that? 😅 What's the craziest genre mashup you've ever enjoyed, like punk mixed with folk or jazz with electronic? Kinda curious if anyone here’s into weird combinations!

z1ngaro replied to the thread The Search for Life: Which Planets Are Most Likely to Host Extraterrestrial Life?.

This may be a dumb thought, but I'm honestly still stuck on why we haven’t sent more crazy missions to Titan yet. Like, dsa methane cycle there is totally bonkers—rain, rivers, lakes, all with liquid methane instead of water. We always chase H2O because that’s our thing on Earth [URL:https://spacefoxies.com/lexicon/entry/2-earth/], but what if life there just vibes with what they've got? I mean, it might look nothing like microbes as we know them. Also, slight shout-out to Venus again,…

SkyBrutus replied to the thread What would happen if the sun disappeared for a day?.

Interesting takes from everyone so far. Most ppl forget that animals (including us) would really freak out if it suddenly became night everywhere—like, the circadian rhythm would be totally messed up, right? Would be weird to see how humans and animals handle the confusion... Not to mention, weather would probably act up in ways we can't fully predict if the sun blinked out for 24 hours. This may be a stupid question, but do you think any creatures—maybe deep-sea life or certain…

chance7 replied to the thread Forged Proof.

Yeah, a lot of people forget that old-school fakes exist—like the infamous “Martian canals” drawings from the 1800s… Total fantasy, but people believed it! Also, even nowadays, some space pics are “enhanced” to look cooler for the public. Doesn’t mean they’re fake, but stuff gets a bit juiced up for effect, you know? Question is: if you start tweaking space photos to make them prettier or more “understandable”, at what point does it cross the line from education to deception? Where’s the…

chance7 replied to the thread Do people believe that Russia has a bad space program.

I think the nostalgia factor is real. Russia’s got legends and lots of firsts, no argument, but lately, they seem more like they’re patching up old stuff than breaking new ground. The Soyuz is reliable, yeah, but it’s also been flying since the 60s—feels like running Windows XP in a world of MacBooks and Chromebooks, you know? 😅 Maybe it’s budget, maybe it’s politics, but when was the last time Russia wowed the world with something truly new? Are they stuck in maintenance mode, or do you…

ZiZi_Plasma replied to the thread Some cool facts about the Universe?.

This may be a stupid question, but did anyone ever wonder how mind-bending it is that around 95% of the universe is basically “invisible” to us? Scientists say most of it is made up of dark matter and dark energy—stuff we can’t really see or touch, but which seriously messes with how galaxies move and the universe expands. 🤔 Also, random fact: If you were standing on the surface of Venus (let’s pretend you could survive…), the air pressure would squish you flat, and the sky would look…

MVN050 wrote the article Artemis 2 Is Over – What Comes Next?.

With Artemis II, NASA completed one of the most important steps in modern spaceflight in early April 2026: for the first time since the Apollo missions, a crewed mission flew around the Moon again. The four-person crew launched on April 1, 2026, circled the Moon on a so-called free-return trajectory, and safely splashed down in the Pacific on April 10, 2026. The mission lasted 9 days, 1 hour, and 32 minutes and marks the transition from the testing phase to the next big question: What happens now?

Wrath replied to the thread How was the moon landing televised?.

just adding on: afaik the moon landing TV signal was actually received first by big radio dishes in Australia (like Parkes and Honeysuckle Creek), not directly by some relay in lunar orbit. The Lunar Module's camera sent the SSTV signal straight to Earth , where it got converted for regular TV broadcast. Bit wild that the first steps were seen live in Oz before Houston! 😅 Not 100% sure if every relay spot is correct, but the tech behind getting those grainy images out to the whole planet…

Wrath replied to the thread The Role of Astrobiology in Understanding Life Beyond Earth.

Heh, nice points! The more we learn, the more it feels like our " Earth bias" is maybe holding us back. Like, it’s possible life is everywhere, but just too weird for us to recognize atm. Even on Earth , we keep finding critters in places we thought were totally dead… so why not crazy life somewhere we don‘t even expect? One thing that gets me thinking: what if we do find simple life, but it looks nothing like cells or DNA or stuff we know? Would we even know how to spot it? Curious - how…

ZiZi_Plasma replied to the thread Do drones have any good or bad uses?.

Drones are crazy versatile, right? I've seen them used for farming (checking crops) and even delivering meds in remote places, which is wild. But tbh, I still freak out a bit when one buzzes by at the park—feels kinda weird not knowing who's piloting it or what they're doing. 😅 Do you guys think there should be stricter checks for hobby drone users, or is that just overkill? Would love to hear if someone’s had a positive (or negative) surprise from a drone out in the wild!

ehyo replied to the thread DIY Telescope Projects: Build Your Own Stargazing Equipment.

so cool to see others jumping into DIY telescope stuff! My hot take: don’t get too hung up on finding “perfect” optics for your first build. Half the joy is struggling through it and then FINALLY seeing something sharp-ish. 😅 For me, big learning was how much the tube (materials, length, how well it blocks stray light) actually matters… not just the glass itself. A cardboard mailing tube and duct tape got me further than I thought, honestly. “Ugly but effective” is a vibe here. Anyone else…

chance7 replied to the thread Venus Express.

Anyone else think it's kinda wild how we keep hyping past oceans and lightning but ignore the hot mess that Venus is now? Like, yeah, Venus Express did great work, but with over 400°C on the surface and acid rain, I honestly doubt we'll be sending landers soon. The Russians scored with their probes in the 70s/80s, but that was pure hardware brutality. Maybe we should focus on orbiters and maybe send a cloud-bot next? 😏 Also, it always cracks me up that every few years another…

chance7 replied to the thread Which space books do you enjoy reading?.

cool to see some non-fiction picks here! For me, it's always fascinating to dive into books written by actual astronauts. Chris Hadfield's "An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth " gives a really down-to- earth (lol) look at what it's like to live and work in space, and how those experiences change your perspective on life back on the surface. His stories are wild, especially the way he links the space mindset with everyday problems... 😂 On the fiction side, I'm still a sucker for the…
