Why don't satellites or the International Space Station freeze if space is freezing?

  • Satellites and the International Space Station (ISS) do not freeze in space because there is no air to conduct heat away from them, and they are designed to regulate their internal temperatures. In space, objects only lose heat through radiation, which is slow. Therefore, spacecraft use special insulation and temperature control systems to keep their internal components at a safe operating temperature.
