The ESA Commercialisation Gateway is organising its second event of the ESA Commercialisation Days series with the objective of bringing the transportation and space key actors together as well as opening up to the public to attend.
The background
Transportation is growing worldwide, challenging traditional public and private transportation models with an increasing demand in capacity and efficiency, all while moving towards low emissions. Automation, connectivity, positioning, and related emerging new technologies as well as business models, open new possibilities at the crossroad of space and transportation.
Connectivity, both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure, is a priority for smart mobility and a huge challenge in remote areas. On-board and external sensors create large volumes of data which need to be transferred in a fast and secure manner. In addition, as transportation systems become increasingly automated, satellite connectivity and precise and reliable navigation services are becoming ever more vital. Transportation stakeholders are moreover faced with the need to monitor and decrease emissions. Smart traffic management systems and Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platforms are becoming crucial for identifying the optimal transportation mix of public and private transportation, and optimising utilisation of transportation means.
For all these developments collaboration between institutions, research organisations, industry and investors within transportation and space will be key to enable a new wave of commercial solutions supporting both sectors.
